School’s Out! The Family’s Coming to New York City!

Holiday Inn Manhattan View always takes pleasure in welcoming families to our hotel.  While that first encounter with our Front Desk associates may find tired kids and harried parents looking for credit cards or backpacks, by day two everyone is rested and anxious to see all the “great stuff” that is New York.   We share our own favorites, help with city subways and buses, give great hints on where to eat, how to save money, and where much needed breaks can also be special.  Of course, selecting the Holiday Inn Manhattan View is the first best-choice of the visit, assuring our guests comfort and convenience, spectacular city views, a chance to be part of a real city neighborhood…and affordable rates. Every visitor knows Manhattan’s  iconic highlights, but we’d like to recommend several special places and events of SUMMER 2014 in the Big Apple that could turn out to be among the best…and for all ages.  We start with our own corner of the city, Long Island City and Astoria, just across from Midtown Manhattan.

Try the neighborhood’s ethnic restaurants in   Astoria and Long Island City .

Holiday Inn Manhattan View Celebrates July 4th

Holiday Inn Manhattan View Celebrates July 4th

Come celebrate with us!

That sound of whistles and whoops you may be hearing from where you are right now is coming from Long Island City…and all along the Queens’ side of the East River.  Yes! We are ecstatic and triumphant here at the Holiday Inn Manhattan View, as we know our guests, (hmm, and the staff) after too many July 4th holidays on the Hudson, will join with eastside New Yorkers for the spectacle.

WJuly 4th in NYCith the Brooklyn Bridge as the heart of the evening’s high-flying production, Macy’s has planned an unforgettable display that brings out our love of America. The display will be even more stupendous when the pyrotechnics are also set off from barges in the East River.  The show officially starts at 9pm, with the anticipation building through late afternoon.

Long Island City will offer an ideal viewing site.  And our guests will be well protected should the weatherman pull a mean one and rain on our fireworks parade! You can plan a full day doing what you gotta-do, relax in the Holiday Inn Manhattan View with old and new friends, then celebrate. With a radio or TV turned on, holiday themed music brings the celebration to an unforgettable peak.

All holiday weekend there’ll be so much happening—as there always is in New York City. The brand new LIC Art Bus—FREE, Saturdays and Sundays—started this month of May and our guests will be treated to a whole-art experience on summer weekends.  And Sunday, July 6, 11am-6pm, there’s the Astoria Festival. Your July 4th  week or weekend, overflowing with Selfies and souvenirs, with the Holiday Inn Manhattan View for your choice hotel, will last for many great-holidays.

For great rates, book your stay with us.

Take a bite out of something sweet!

Craft Beer Takes New York!

It’s no secret that craft beer has seen explosive growth across America. There are now more than 2,500 breweries either in operation or about to open, and the country’s taste for full, flavorful beers only continues to grow. That trend towards artisanal beer is sweeping through New York City, too, where a number of breweries and many fantastic beer bars are now operating to great success. Some are even right here in Long Island City

craft-beer-photoAlewife  is among the most celebrated beer bars in Long Island City, Queens. Featuring nearly 30 great beers on draft and an impressively creative food menu, it’s a stop that will satisfy anyone, beer lover or not.

Another impressive Long Island City eatery is John Brown Smokehouse, which features great BBQ and a small but carefully cultivated selection of craft beers on tap.

New on the scene but already winning raves for its food is Alobar,  another great establishment not far from Holiday Inn Manhattan View. Their craft beer menu is short but each choice is a winner, and their food is excellent.

Queens is even getting its own breweries! Queens Brewery will soon be opening its doors, while nearby, Singlecut Beersmiths are making a name for themselves as a great new brewery in the area. Throw in great craft brewers in nearby Brooklyn such as Sixpoint and the legendary Brooklyn Brewery and it’s clear that New York is quickly becoming a great beer city – all of it easily accessible from Holiday Inn Manhattan View!

If you’re staying at a hotel in New York City, be sure to check out the city’s great craft beer scene. And be sure to visit us on Facebook!
