New York City embodies a lively, dynamic and engaging spirit of street fairs and art exhibitions – and this month, when the weather is delightful for walking around city streets, you can explore and absorb the cool vibe at every corner. Combine visits to several of these experiences into a stay with us at the Holiday Inn Manhattan View. A convenient subway ride from our hotel delivers you into the heart of the action! Below is just a snapshot of the countless fairs and festivals around us this fall for you to consider.
New York’s largest independent exhibition, the annual Governors Island Art Fair showcases the vision of 100 individuals who are each given a single room (in an abandoned military barracks) to present their artistic form – including paintings, photography, sculpture, installation, video and sound art. Organized by 4heads, the exhibition takes place Saturdays and Sundays between September 6 and 28. Admission is free.
Considered a “sidewalk show,” the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit, opened this past weekend and continues September 6-7. Situated on the sidewalks of University Place in Greenwich Village, this outdoor exhibit is a wonderful display of fine arts (such as graphics, mixed media, watercolor and sculpture), jewelry, metal work, ceramics, fiber, wood and more.
Both the beginning and the end of September delivers added excitement to Sixth Avenue with the Sixth Avenue Festival on September 6 (between Houston Street and Waverly Place) and the Sixth Avenue Fair on September 27 (between 42 and 56th streets). There’s food, arts, crafts and much more for the entire family to enjoy.
Among the best-loved festivals on the west side of the city – thanks to fantastic entertainment, delicious food and exquisite crafts – the 38th annual Columbus Avenue Festival is slated for September 21 between 68th and 86th streets.
If you’re seeking an unrivaled selection of treasures and bargains, head to the New York City Big Flea Market September 27-28 at Pier 94 in Manhattan. You can peruse over 600 booths of one-of-a-kind finds.
